What it's like to Raise Eight Children
Show Notes

As any parent knows, having kids is a daily mix of emotional highs and lows, tedious tasks, heart-filling joy, exhaustion, love, frustration, and on and on and on.  Imagine multiplying all of this by eight.  Our guest on this episode--Jessica Galbraith--is the mother of eight children (as she likes to point out: all planned! no twins! all with the same man!).

What is that like? How does she do it?  This personal conversation between two close friends who are raising their kids together is both revealing and (surprisingly) relatable.

We get into the practical:

  • packing lunches for eight kids
  • traveling (hotels vs. VRBO)
  • losing kids at Disneyland
  • the marriage-saving importance of date nights

And we get into the emotional:

  • how it feels to be compared to an Uber driver + cook + maid; Jessica has a much different perspective on her role
  • how to connect on an emotional level with so many kids with so many different needs and personalities
  • dealing with other peoples' perceptions and reactions (yes, she knows that a 2-year-old should be wearing shoes; she just made the deliberate decision not to spend 20 minutes looking for those shoes at the cost of missing another child's soccer game)

We cover it all--from the joys to the challenges of motherhood.  In the end, though, as Jessica says: "For me, fun is always going to win."
